How Dare You Chad Myers!
You only have two decades worth of experience dealing with the weather and climate changes… how dare you think you know more about global warming than Al Gore?

That’s right. Reports work on “instinct”.
The preamble:
It’s Thanksgiving and that means that a lot of blogs out there are going to be filled with people listing off everything they are thankful for, and that they are thankful for everything. Well I am not thankful for everything, though I am thankful for most things. Every year I like to get very specific and list off 5 things that I am NOT thankful for, and everything else you can just assume I am thankful for until I tell you otherwise. Here is my list for 2008:
5. Carleton University.
Ottawa University has removed the charity work that it does for people with cystic fibrosis because it has been found to primarily only affect white men. They see this as “a win for diversity“.
So by this same logic then, if I were to start a foundation for only dealing with cystic fibrosis, would these same knuckle heads call me a raciest? Probably.
From the national post:
Cystic fibrosis “has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men” said the motion read to student councillors, who voted almost unanimously in favour of it…
Carleton students have fanned out across the city near the beginning of the school year to raise money to fight the illness for years. But according to the motion read Monday night to student councillors, “all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve the their (sic) diverse communities.”…
“I think they see this, in their own twisted way, as a win for diversity,” said Mr. Bergamini. “I see it as a loss for people with cystic fibrosis.”…
Carleton University Students’ Association president Brittany Smyth said student council has been considering rotating the beneficiary of Shinearama instead of always giving the money to one charity.
Carlenton U this is shameful and insulting… I am not thankful for you.
4. President Elect Obama
Or more specifically, his policies.
Let’s do a short case study.
Three of the leading ski resorts on Colorado have come forward this year and stated that they are going to be doing massive layoffs. (These particular resorts claim they employee up to 2500 people.) They state the reason for these layoffs is in direct response to the lack of reservations for this year as compared to last year. Now… stay with me… the clientele of these resorts, the resorts themselves say, are typically out of state, “fat cat” type business tycoons who book lavish vacations, sometimes for weeks at a time, at these places. But these guys aren’t spending money on anything right now because they don’t know if or to what extent they are going to be taxed next year. There is an uncertainty in the market.
So what we have here is something call an economic full circle.
Let’s work this backward and maybe it will make a little more sense. Mr. “fat cat” wall street hears that Mr. Obama (if elected) will raise my taxes by an undefined amount. Well… hes not voting for him and oh crap… wouldn’t you know it… he gets elected. Ok… well he still hasn’t mentioned anything to the extent of the tax increase, so Mr Fat Cat is going to do a couple things.
1. He’s gonna get out of the stock market while the getting is good and there is still money to be made. AP supports this by reporting that this is the largest stock market drop after a presidential election in the history of the stock market, almost a full 25%.
2. He is going to stop spending money. No more dinning out. (Restaurants in NYC and along Wall Street have already reported huge financial losses to back this up.) No lavish vacations. (Our Colorado resorts.) And certainly a scaling back of any luxury purchases.
It is very clear to see what is happening and what is going to happen. It’s economics 101. Because the people who have the means to purchase won’t, the demand for goods and services drops. Because the demand drops, the supply isn’t needed. Because supply isn’t needed, people who produce these goods and services are no longer needed (I’m talking about you and me now, the middle class of America) get salary cuts and even laid off.
Economist, even before the election, said this would happen. They warned us, but the news didn’t seem to want to report this.
So for all you middle class people out there who thought it was a good idea to vote for Obama because he was going to raise taxes on those “evil” rich people and this was somehow going to help you… I have a secret message for you. You can see it by clicking this sentence.
Though… I must say that as of this past week he is starting to come around. According to the same AP News he’s decided to keep the Bush tax cuts in place until 2011 rather then rolling them back, like he said he would, as soon as he got into office. (I think this is a wise move, yet find it very funny that he’s going back on his campaign promises even before he’s in the office.) He pretty much stated that with the economy hurting the way it is, this is not the time to increase taxes.
But one questions still remains… if keeping taxes lower helps the economy, why would you ever, EVER raise them?
Mr. Obama… you are my President. For my countries sake, and for the sake of my son who will have to live in the future that you are going to help mold, I wish you nothing but success. But I cannot be thankful for you this Thanksgiving.
3. The Main Stream Media
2008 is the year that unbiased news died. The news coverage of this past presidential elect was disgraceful. Reports seem to no longer “follow the money”, but instead only ran stories that would seem to boost their interests.
What they did to Sarah Palin will was distasteful and will never be forgotten. What they did to Joe the plumber was disgusting. (The day after “Joe the plumber” made it in the news, I knew more about him then I did about Obama.)
But there is a glimmer of hope.
Now (though, after the damage is done) writers for the Washington Post, Time Magazine, and even the LA Times are coming forward and pretty much admitting to what I already knew. They are coming forward and saying, yeah… we were bias… our bad.
Mark Halperin from Time Magazine states:
“It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.”
Halperin, who maintains Time’s political site “The Page,” cited two New York Times articles as examples of the divergent coverage of the two candidates.
“The example that I use, at the end of the campaign, was the two profiles that The New York Times ran of the potential first ladies,” Halperin said. “The story about Cindy McCain was vicious. It looked for every negative thing they could find about her and it case her in an extraordinarily negative light. It didn’t talk about her work, for instance, as a mother for her children, and they cherry-picked every negative thing that’s ever been written about her.”
The story about Michelle Obama, by contrast, was “like a front-page endorsement of what a great person Michelle Obama is,” according to Halperin.
This is only a small taste of the deception and covering up the media did for the Obama Campaign.
As far as I’m concerned, the main stream media has lost it’s credibility in it’s entirety. Another example:
I bet you didn’t know that the many scientist believe that now were completely wrong about global warming? It’s true, politico even picked up on this story. Read it here. One article even went so far to say that we can now look forward to a new ice age. BUT I bet you did know that Saran Palin gave an interview in front of a turkey being “processed” at a turkey farm.
They are playing us all for fools, and most of us seem to be willing accomplices. I will from this point on forever get the real news by digging on the www.
News media guys… you’ve lied to this guy for the last time. I am not thankful for you.
An exception to the rule, I’ve got to give credit where credit is do:
Oprah… I was pleasantly surprised by you this year. I’ll go so far as to say that I’m even proud of you. Even though I believe you were endorsing the wrong candidate, you didn’t really make a show of force until after the election. For the most part you remained neutral in a time when every body else seemed to be caught up in Obama mania.
2. Angry, Bitter People
Those of us with the temperance brought on by life experiences understand that anger and bitterness don’t dissipate with changing circumstances. No, they are part of the person and can only be eradicated from the inside out. I would like to draw an example on the Prop. 8 protesters in California to make my point.
The California courts are now going to investigate the “Mormon aid” that may have influenced the vote to ban gay marriage.
First off… what does that even mean? The Mormons don’t believe in homosexuality so of course whatever influence a Mormon is going to have regarding this would be a negative one. Is California really going to try and limit the influence that people have on other people because of personal beliefs?
If I could communicate anything to these people it would be this: This is America, and in America we have process so brilliantly developed that let’s the people rule by majority by voting. The reason prop 8. didn’t get passed is because people didn’t want the definition of marriage changed.
What you should do is reach out to those people, to change their hearts and minds, rather than the government to circumvent the process. And you know what, even if you can’t change their mind, you should respect their opinion even if you don’t agree with it. Isn’t this the same kindness your looking for?
Boiled down this really turns into the equivalent of the little spoiled kid who if he doesn’t win, doesn’t want to play anymore.
But what they are missing is that the same First Amendment that is giving these protesters the right to protest this in the first place offers the same protection to the Mormon church to stand on it’s beliefs. But apparently in this case, they want freedom of speech only protects the people that are angry and bitter.
This is just one very small example, but I think it communicated the point well.
Angry and bitter people, you’re making it harder for the rest of us I am not thankful for you.
1. Mayor Sackrison of Lacey Washington
Mr. Mayor, of everything that has happened this past year, your actions have sickened me the most.
Mayor Sackrison apparently doesn’t want homeless people in Lacey. So much so that he doesn’t want churches to house them anymore. He didn’t come right and say this, but he is responsible for passing for much legislation that it makes it virtually impossible for churches to help.
From the Olympian:
The council imposed 16 pages of limitations on every host church. Each host congregation, for example, must have $1 million worth of general liability insurance and pay for a conditional use permit to house the homeless. Each church must have a kitchen and the entrance must be manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Host churches must log every visitor and track every single homeless individual’s circumstance. Shelter residents must present identification or be fingerprinted. How many homeless individuals have a driver’s license for identification purposes?
By erecting those hurdles, the council majority has, in practical terms, made it impossible for churches to meet their biblical call to shelter the homeless.
Mr. Mayor, by removing the ability for churches to give aide to these people, what government policies have you passed that will help these people in the churches place? I’ve been looking and I can’t find a single think you’ve done that would have a positive impact on these people.
Mayor Sackrison… you are arrogant, heartless and you disgust me. I am not thankful for you.
Facts don’t lie, and this Zogby Poll is screaming the truth. The mere fact that out of 512 people who said they were going to vote for Obama couldn’t identify what political party had control of the Congress worries me.
What did I learn from these results? It’s clear that the media failed to report both side of the story. Because of that it’s clear that people really didn’t have an educated opinion about who Obama was and what he represents. So as a result is seems as if we’ve elected an icon, or more appropriately, an empty suit to the most powerful position in the world.
Here is the raw break down from the Zogby findings.
512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points
97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates
Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions
57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)
81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)
82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)
88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)
56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).
And yet…..
Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes
Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter
And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her “house,” even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!
Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.
Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we “gave” one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)
I would honestly like to hear specifics from those who voted for Obama about why they voted for him. What specifically intrigued you about what he was saying? Was it all just the “hype” or did you think he had some good ideas?
If someone would be willing to sit down with me over a cup of coffee and help me understand, I’d even buy the coffee.
Just me trying to figure stuff out.
