I enjoyed the first Kane and Lynch – it captured the feeling of classic “heist” movies – and I wanted to like Dog Days just as much. Unfortunately, I didn’t. The game consists of a raw, job gone bad plot – containing a few scenes that would have made a Soprano squeamish – which takes place though very well detailed, Shanghai inspired levels and is presented exceptionally well.
The camera itself draws you in deeper with it’s shaky, poorly lit effect; ala a filming of Cops. Unfortunately, the interesting story and clever presentation do little to support the generic game play. Every single encounter can be won exactly the way and the disparity in weapon effectiveness – a strong trait from the first game – is nonexistent here.
Gimmicks like throwing exploding containers and taking human shields add a little variety to the game play, but not much. In addition, the campaign is too short, it took me 4 hours. If you enjoyed the first Kane and Lynch, give Dog Days a shot, otherwise, stay away.
About Those Achievements
I didn’t enjoy Dog Days enough to Achievement hunt. I just took whatever the story gave me.
