August 2011 Greatest Hits

I stunk larger than a piece of Godzilla’s poop at blogging last month. Not too many post, and I don’t have too many greatest hits to post. August was not the best month for me. Anway… always looking on the bright side, here is what I really enjoyed about August.

Introduction

At the end of each month I like to take some time and write about what was great about it. You can call this action what you want — stopping to smell the roses, appreciating the simple things in life, taking stock of the present time — regardless of what you want to call it, I’ve enjoyed doing it because it forces me to look at some of the positive things in day to day life potentially could be easily overlooked. With that as the background, here are last months Greatest Hits. (In chronological order)

Saved By The Bell: The 8 Bit Video Game

I spent more time playing this interactive Youtube video game than I probably should. In fact, I kept replaying it until I had explored every possible avenue and then was still wishing for more. Any Saved by the Bell fan will appreciate this as a labor of love and enjoy the tongue in check references to just how inconsistent the show really was.

Logan’s First Trip to Mike’s Hotdogs

Mike’s hot dogs is a coming of age tradition in my family. My grandparents took my mom there when she was little. My parents took my siblings and I there when we were little, and last month I took Logan there.

I had built up the place for Logan before we even got there to the point where he was exclaiming “I Love Mike’s Dogs!” on the way to little hole-in-the-wall location for the first time.

He loved sitting in at the counter in the “high chairs”; he loved being able to pour his own ketchup over his own food; and he loved the food. At one point, pointing at the short order cooks, he told me, “Those people make the best food ever!”

The tradition continues.

Logan Making Snow Men

I want to file this memory away so it never gets forgotten. Logan has just helped me finish cleaning the living room and was so excited to have a large open space to play in. He laid down and started mimicking the motion of creating a snow angel, but got confused. He told me he was making “Snow Men”.

The Perfect Host

I love psychologically thrilling movies, and I happened upon a pretty creative one stair David Hyde Peirce. I’ve been a huge fan of Mr. Peirce’s since Frasier (but then again who hasn’t) and he played the part of a deranged individual perfectly. I can’t say too much more without spoiling the movie, so I’ll just say it’s well worth the watch.

New Disney Pins!

It’s been a while since I’ve picked up anything Disney related so this is exciting for me. Dana was down in Florida for her friend’s wedding and brought me back a couple of Disney pins. One is the Luxo lamp, the Pixar Studio icon, and the other is this really unique “gear sprocket” Donald — which looks really awesome. Seriously folks… doesn’t take much to please me.

So that’s it for August.

Dear August, you were actually pretty crappy to me; but I love you anyway. Maybe next year we’ll have a better time together.
