I have mixed feelings about Velvet Assassin. While I did enjoy the the game, it’s hard for me to recommend it to anyone who isn’t a serious stealth action fan.
Despite it’s open world appearance the game offers little more than a distinct linear path that requires following. More than once I was reduced to running randomly around an open area in search of a specific crawl space that would allow me to proceed. Furthermore; with no deviation from this singular path allowed, enemy encounters were often reduced to frustrating, “trail and error” repetitious play.
Unfortunately, the game isn’t free from technical glitches either. Enemy soldiers would freeze in place and wait for my butchering, others would watch their companion die right in front of them and give up looking for me after a minute of wandering around.
For fans of the stealth games, Velvet Assassin, if not taken to seriously, is a fun way to pass some time until the next Splinter Cell title. Other gamers may want to stay way.
My Score: 5/10.
