May 2011 Greatest Hits

Introduction

At the end of each month I like to take some time and write about what was great about it. You can call this action what you want — stopping to smell the roses, appreciating the simple things in life, taking stock of the present time — regardless of what you want to call it, I’ve enjoyed doing it because it forces me to look at some of the positive things in day to day life potentially could be easily overlooked. With that as the background, here are last months . (In chronological order)

It isn’t too often a short film leaves this much of an impression on me, but the Whitestone short Blood On My Name did just that. I gave it it’s own post right here.

First Tid-Bits From The Dark Knight Rises Released on the Interwebs

I know it isn’t much, but for die hard Batman fans who have finally been given a directer that interprets the Caped Crusader’s screen adaptation so brilliantly (Christopher Nolan), any little morsel of goodness stays off the hunger for the third and final Nolan Batman film.

All I’ve seen so far is this, viral campaign leaked, image of Bane… and I LOVE IT.

Army of One – Bjork

So this is an oldie, but it’s fantastic. I’ve just seen it for the first time and it blew my mind.

Weekend At The Desmond

To celebrate seven years of marriage, Dana and I actually did an overnight stay at the Desmond Hotel in Albany. Aside from a wedding anniversary, this also marked the first time Dana and I have gotten away without the kids since becoming parents — 3+ years.

In the future, I shouldn’t let our get-aways be so few and far between.

7 Years Married!

Well feed me garlic and call me stinky! I’ve been married seven years! And what a seven years it’s been. We’ve been through cancer together, serious family illness, almost losing our oldest sun, and a plethora of other issues.

I’m excited about growing older with her… we’ve earned our gray hairs together, it’s only appropriate that we should enjoy them on each other.

This Photo of Chase

During the first heat wave of the year we took Chase and Logan out to Control Tower for some ice cream cones. It also happened to be one of the windiest days we’ve had in a while. Chase loved watching the go-karts next to the ice cream shop, and the conditions were perfect for a perfect picture:

I’m gonna have this one on my cubical wall for a long time.

A Still Life

Another short that I really enjoyed. (This was a good month for media consumption) I thought I knew where this movie was headed (as it seemed very familiar at first) but it took a shocking sinister turn that caught me off guard. Watch it from start to finish:

That’s it for May

Now I need to head to the Gym… bathing suit season starts soon.
