Though it was certainly no epic, I enjoyed the the original Cars racing game. The giant Disney/Pixar dork that I am, appreciated it for what it was. Cars: Race-O-Rama didn’t quite capture that same feeling for me. The race tracks are uninspired, the controls are clunky at times, the mini-games swing the pendulum between being either ridiculously hard or incredibly easy, and there are no shortage of technical glitches that badly need patching. On the plus side, the game is rather short — I was able to blow through the main story and subsequent side mission in a little over four hours.
The exceptions to the mediocre game play would be the Tokyo Mater and Mater-The-Greater themed levels — no doubt designed to co-inside with the release of the Cars-Toons DVD. They’re clever, and fun, gimmicks that unfortunately were added to a game that was beyond redemption. Even my inner Disney/Pixar fan can’t recommend this game. I’d advise staying away.
