Oh February! What a month you were. You were full of heart-ache, joy, gratitude and distractions. I don’t feel like I got nearly the things done that I wanted to get done this month; but I feel I didn’t get them done because you never gave me the chance. I’m happy for what you brought, but I’m not looking to repeat this month’s events anytime soon.
My greatest hits list for February 2010:
1. Logan Lives!
I’ve written my thoughts about the matter already, you can read them here, but my heart isn’t capable of expressing enough gratitude for the miracle that took place on my son’s life early in February.
2. Not Only Does Logan Live, He Thrives!
This was a blessing inside of another blessing. I was very concerned about the “after-effects” of what Logan went through — specifically, I was concerned that his heart would be weakened. We’ve got two post-event checkups under our belt so far and with each checkup came great test results. His heart is showing absolutely no signs of diminished capacity and as far as these test can tell there are absolutely no residual effects. I Praise God for this!
3. Logan Has AWESOME Friends and Family.
Though-out our stay in Boston, we experienced a tremendous outpouring of support from friends and family. From the family who came with us to Boston and help put Dana and I up in a hotel room, to my brother and sister-in-law who took Chase in for a week, to the literal world-wide prayer “net” that was cast for our benefit. Seeing how far this little guy’s life reached was a humbling experience.
4. Uncle Peter and Aunt Jess Watch Chase For A Week
As I mentioned above; Chase stay with my brother and his wife for the week we were in Boston with Logan. I was VERY anxious about this as Chase normally is a house cat, or a home body. He doesn’t seem to do well outside of his own environment. Thankfully that week he did excellent and played with his cousin Jaden. Aunt Jess helped heal hearts by sending photos every night to Dana and I who were missing Chase but couldn’t see him. This was an awesome act of love, and again, a very humbling experience.
5. Chase Goes Mobile
Long time readers of mine know that Chase is developmentally delayed. Up until the week we were away he had yet to really “move” by any sense of the word. He was a year old and couldn’t crawl, couldn’t pick himself up, and had a poor sense of balance. But (of course) the week Dana and I are away, the switch in his little body gets turned on and not only did he start crawling, but every area he seemed to be behind caught up to him all at once. Amazing.
6. Chase Tickle-Tickle-Tickles
This was another thing that Dana and I came home to — Chase picked up the week we were away the habit of tickling people. Well — not exactly, he doesn’t haven’t down quite yet… but he extended his hand toward you, wiggles his fingers, and says “tickle tickle tickle”. It’s easily one of the most adorable things you’ll ever see.
Other Things
Though they pale in comparison to the fir st 6 items I’ve mentioned, the following four were still enjoyable aspects of February for me. Please don’t mis-understand and think I’m holding discovering new music (and the like) in the same regard I am my son’s life being spared. Nothing could be further from the truth.
7. New Music!
I’ve been rocking out to both Cage the Elephant and Lady Antebellum this month. I’m really enjoying Cage the Elephant because they remind me of the rock sound of the early 90s. Though I’m not a huge country fan, I’ve been digging the lyrics from Lady Antebellum. They’re clever and catchy. Two of my favorite songs this month have been:
Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked – Cage the Elephant
Need You Now – Lady Antebellum
8. Words of Wisdom David Champion
“When you are looking at purely dollars and cents, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense. The Volt isn’t particularly efficient as an electric vehicle and it’s not particularly good as a gas vehicle either in terms of fuel economy,” said David Champion, the senior director of Consumer Reports auto testing center at a meeting with reporters here. “This is going to be a tough sell to the average consumer.”
I freely admit to engaging in a touch of schadenfreude here — but let’s be honest: did anybody think that the United States government designing and promoting a vehicle was going to be a good idea? Read the full article, especially where they compare the vehicle to the Prius. It proves a universal truth that many people still don’t seem to grasp: Government can’t compete with business. What they produce costs twice and much as performs half as well. The only reason GM stays solvent is because of all the tax breaks they’re currently getting the Obama administration.
Project 365 Update
This because of all that was going on, this was a poor month for the 365 Project. I did manage to get a photo for each day, but some of them weren’t taken on each day — a weeks worth of photos are simply some photos of toys I took for an upcoming blog post I’m working on — and I wasn’t even the photographer for some of these photos. All the photos of Chase were taken by my sister-in-law Jess. (Who I mentioned above and who is awesome!)
Here’s my snap shot for February, click on the image to go to the project page.
So that’s February in a nut shell — only eight items, but most of the items are colossal in their note-worthy-ness. Adios February. You’ll be missed — but I’m hoping March isn’t quite as hectic.
