Assassin’s Creed II

Resuming precisely where the first Assassin’s Creed ended, Assassin’s Creed II expands on everything that was fun about it’s predecessor while also removing all it’s tedious game play elements.

The game is fun and appropriately paced. The combat system is easily enough to “pick up and play” but will reward players willing to take the time to master the controls with some truly dynamic battles. The gameplay overall feels very well balanced — it’s challenging enough to test your prowess, yet at the same time it isn’t difficult to the point of frustration.

Fans of the series will welcome the few well placed collectibles and hidden puzzles that break off of the main story’s arch, as well as some explanations regarding the origin of the series’ actual centerpiece, The Apple of Eden. I found the challenges left by “Subject 16″ especially rewarding.

New comers to the series should play through the original title first — otherwise many of the plot’s intricacies will be lost.
