Controversial Documents, Such As The Constitution and Declaration of Independence, Need Warning Labels?

9-11

Another story about the greatest nation on the planet to be filed under the “makes me sick” category. Wilder Publications have decided that the ‘classic works’, AKA the most brilliantly inspired documents ever crafted by man, AKA our nation’s founding documents, are controversial and need a warning label on them. Part of that warning is as follows:

“A product of it’s time.” “Does not reflect the same values as it would have if it were written today.” “Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.”

There isn’t too much I can add to this story that hasn’t already been said (and I’m guessing isn’t being thought by you right now), but I am curious about what aspects of “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness Wilder Publications feels is not timeless? What exactly would they have changed had this been written today?

I will concede the the current administration appears to be highly offended by our nation’s founding documents, and I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they believe them to be controversial. However; as soon as our chief community organizer is voted out, in two years, he will be replaced by someone who treasures, and acknowledges the significance of these documents. After all, these are the very documents that the Presidents of the United States are sworn to protect.

In the mean time, I am boycotting Wilder Publications, writing them demanding an apology, and encouraging them to practice one of the greatest freedoms our founding documents support. The right to leave this country.
