My Top 10 Movies of the Previous Decade
Now that we’re almost half a year into the new year, I suppose its time to finish my “best media of the past decade” lists. Previously I’ve gone into detail about my top 10 video games and top 8 music albums, so I’m going to finish up with my top 10 movie picks. I’ve decided not to include brief overviews of why/how the movies obtained their top spots, unlike my other two posts. This is partly due to laziness, but mostly due to the fact that most of them have appeared on countless top movies list all across the inter-webbs and their greatness is somewhat self-evident.
Top 10 Movies
Not to leave the movies completely out of my list, if I had to pick the movies I most enjoyed the past decade, it would be these:
- The Dark Knight (2008)
- Lord of the Rings: Trilogy (2001, 2002, 2003)
- Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
- Wall-E (2008)
- Gladiator (2000)
- No Country For Old Men (2007)
- Batman Begins (2005)
- Inglorious Bastards (2009)
- Garden State (2004)
- Star Trek (2009)
Movie Honorable Mentions
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
American Beauty
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Donnie Darko

What about Iron Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Pirates of the Caribbean or X-Men 2? Bah.
Those were all great movies. It’s really hard to nail down just 10 picks. Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe Pirates of the Caribbean deserves to be up there over Star Trek….
There’s three more Pixar movies I neglected to mention: Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Cars was good, Ratatouille was nice, but these other three was phenomenal, and you’re right, it really is hard nail down just 10. I saw No Country For Old Men, but… I don’t get it. I really didn’t see what the hype was about. It was strange, for lack of a better word. Didn’t see a few others that are on the list, though Pan’s Labyrinth has been streaming on Netflix for a good year at least. I enjoyed Star Trek a lot, but maybe my expectations were too high as I didn’t walk away feeling as psyched about it as I thought I would.
