Thoughts About Circle of 8

I knew as soon as I saw the words: “In Association With Mountain Dew Green Label Studios” in the opening credits, I knew that I was in for a bumpy ride.

The movie tells the story of Jessica. Jessica is starting a new life moving into a loft on the eight floor of a abandoned warehouse-turned-apartment-building to escape the guilt of not being able to save her little brother from drowning. Soon enough she starts seeing things. She sees herself fighting with people whom she hasn’t met yet, and she sees her fellow tenants dying horrible deaths. It turns out they were just faking though.

About three quarters the way through the movie, it takes a turn towards the super natural. It was enough of a turn to peak my interest, but they never explain why, or how, or even what it means. And just when you think that all the people were dead, including the main characters, it turns out they weren’t, and the main characters are nowhere to be found.

I’ve watched the ending of the movie twice, to see if there was possibly something that I missed; but no. No there wasn’t. This movie is completely pointless and the ending doesn’t make any sense. There was one extended scene were the main characters were painting with glow in the dark Mountain Dew. This makes me think that maybe Circle of 8 started out as a over-ambitious soda commercial. It would have been better off left as such.

Perhaps the one saving grace of the movie would be the acting talents of John Bishop. He plays the creepy superintendent part very well, and should have had more of the movie be about him.

Circle of 8 is not a good movie — it’s poorly scripted, poorly thought out, and poorly acted — and should be avoided at all costs. My final score: 2/10.

911? Come get me quick... this whole movie is pointless.
