The Haunted Mansion’s Exit Crypts [Dissecting Disney]

This is a follow up, or companion, post to a previous post of mine about the Tombstones at the Haunted Mansion. In the first post, I dissected the meaning behind the tombstones placed next to it’s entrance, but I completely neglected the crypts located immediately outside of it’s exit.

Where-as the the tombstones in the front of the Haunted Mansion serve as dedications to some of the brilliant minds behind the attraction, and Disney Imagineering in general, the inscriptions on the crypts are merely tongue-in-cheek puns. There isn’t a whole lot to dissect about them other than to “sound them out” and chuckle. Here they are:

The Wives Crypt

You can’t make it out from the photo, but the inscription reads:

Here lieth his loving wives
Penelope – died 1434
Abigail – 1435
Anastasia – 1436
Prudence – 1437
Pheobe – 1438
Eugenia – 1439
Lucretia -
Seven winsome wives
Some fat, some thin
Six of them were faithful
But the seventh did him in
