Brief Quote [Thought] To Chew Over
I want to recount a couple of my all-time favorite quotes on the topic of government:
“We’ve staked our future on our ability to follow the Ten Commandments with all of our heart.” – James Madison
“Give me liberty or give me death!” – Patrick Henry
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.” – GK Chesterton
Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same. – Ronald Regan
Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual). – Ayn Rand
These quote are powerful and invoke a sense of righteous empowerment and pride. Now let’s add to this list a new quote by our Chief Community Organizer:
“We’ve gotta make sure that our party understands that, like it or not, we have to have a financial system that is healthy and functioning.” -Barack Obama
Those words “like it or not” also stir emotions in me, but not the same kind I had felt from the previous batch of quotes. Am I to understand by the presidents own admission, whether he understands he admitted it or not, that there are Democrats in the offices of Congress and of the Senate that do NOT want a health and functioning financial system? Just something to chew over…
