If capitalism is dead, I say: amen! I had a long conversation with a Chinese immigrant this morning who wondered why his insurance payments keep going up, up, up, despite the fact that he has a perfect payment history and never had an accident. I told him that’s capitalism in a nutshell: huge corporations turning a profit on the little guys, who are held hostage by their basic needs.
It’s really not. The capitalist system is a lot more complicated than payments going up. Prices and payments go up for programs in socialist countries as well. Socializing would be putting a tremendous amount of faith in the US government. An organization with a track record of pursuing it’s own interests at the expense of the tax payer, wasteful spending, and criminal corruption. I don’t share your optimism.
