Disney has release the first official trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and I think it looks great. It’s from the same creative minds that made the Pirates of the Caribbean movies so successful and from the same studio that made the National Treasure films. The stroy of the movie appears to be based around the primary story of the first game, but I think I see elements from the rest of the trilogy present in the trailer.
I’m personally very excited about this movie. I loved the games. I remember after completing the first game back in 2002 thinking that somebody should make a movie out of this story. The only question now would be, is Disney Interactive going to make a game, based on the movie, based on the games? I think the original trilogy is old enough where they could get away with it, but any game they could produce would be compared mercilessly with the originals. Maybe they shouldn’t do that. As I’m commented here many times before Disney Interactive doesn’t exactly have the reputation for deep game play and I don’t think the original game studio, UBIsoft, would pick this up again after reinventing the prince in 2008. We’ll see.
