In a recent, maybe even somewhat heated, Facebook conversation I took part in, the argument that 9/11 was an “inside job” was introduced. In the past I’ve always written off conspiracy theories of this sort as they are not usually rooted in facts and evidence, but rather of a general distrust of government, personal conviction, an outlandish ideology, or even a religious belief. Mostly in part to a friend of mine, enough evidence has been presented to me that makes this particular conspiracy theory warrant an honest skeptic’s review.
I’d like this post to serve as an open thread that can be contributed to as a free exchange of thoughts and ideas that honestly weighs evidence from both sides of the argument. Maybe, in time, a consensus can be formed one way or the other, or at the very least all parties can walk away agreeing to disagree with a healthier understanding of the opposition’s view.
Full disclosure: I currently do not believe that 9/11 attacks were anything more than terrorist attacks, organized by Muslim extremists on this nation. That is, I currently believe what the majority of the population believes. The evidence presented here has the task of convincing me otherwise.
To start out with, I’ve posted the two videos that were sent to me to make the argument against what we’ve accepted as the reasoning behind the 9/11 attack. I’ll update relevant information and resources into the primary post as/if it is presented.

I’ll begin at a random point, and a question for Mr. Paul. I’m still going through Loose Change, and transcribing as I go, but I’d like to start off with a more general question: why? What would be the justification for staging the attacks? The only answer I’ve heard so far was “to invade Iraq,” but that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, given that if we could stage the 9/11 attacks, we could stage WMDs as well.

The question of why is a really good question. There doesn’t seem to be any rational behind it for the purposes some the the conspiracy theorists have stated. The motivation does make sense as a terrorist attack for radical ideals though, and I think motivation is a huge key in understanding this.
