Is Anybody Going To Side With Obama’s Administration On This Issue?
According to an article in the Washington Times the Obama administration has overturned decision by local voters that would do away with party affiliations within their local elections.
Citing that “equal rights for black voters cannot be achieved without candidates being clearly labeled as Democrats” the Justice Department has really overstepped their boundaries.
The Justice Department’s ruling, which affects races for City Council and mayor, went so far as to say partisan elections are needed so that black voters can elect their “candidates of choice” – identified by the department as those who are Democrats and almost exclusively black.
There are two things very wrong with this.
First, a federal judge overturned the will of the people. The decision to take the party affiliations off of the ballets was a matter voted on by the people, and that matter passed. The federal government is essentially deeming these people unfit to govern themselves and is imposing it’s will on them. This sets a bad precedent against local government and individual liberties.
Secondly, if I was a black voter in Kingston NC, I would be outraged. What has
just happened here is demeaning and borderline insulting to black people. Or, can I now conclude that black people in NC don’t know enough to follow elections and vote for the person that they feel is most qualified for the job, or whose values are closest aligned with theirs? Is it safe for me to say that black Americans NEED the democrat party, as they can’t handle voting on their own? That’s kind of what this looks like.
It’s painfully obvious that this is about Democrats trying to keep Democrats in power.
I dare someone to try and defend this. I triple dog dare you.
