Quest for Faith

Just for me…

Living For An Audience Of One

Big Idea: In the end, only God’s evaluation matter.

Bullet: If you worry too much about what people think of you, you’ll probably be disappointed to discover how seldom they do.

Text: Matthew 6:1-4

1″Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2″So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

4 Reasons Not To Be A People Pleaser

1. People are fickle. Even if you manage to please some people today, tomorrow their temperament could be completely different and you would have to change along with them to keep pleasing them.

2. Most people don’t care about you anyway.

3. Most popular people aren’t trying to please others. When you think of true revolutionists throughout the history of the world, you’ll see people who stood up for an ideal regardless of what people thought of them.

4. Only God’s evaluation of you matters anyway. On judgement day, God is going to have some very specific questions for you and you alone. He is not going to take an opinion poll of what others thought about you.
