Wordpress 2.8 ‘Insert Gallery’ Functionality

Wordpress 2.8

Wordpress 2.8

I upgraded this site to Wordpress 2.8 and so far I’ve been liking the difference. The biggest improvement is by far the code editor within the application itself. The more advanced features rival some of the tools that I use at work on a daily basis. The whole admin area seems to do process things a touch faster as well.

My only complaint was that it seemed to have removed the Wordpress insert gallery functionality that I had come to love so much with the last release. I first I thought the exclusion of this was an over-site or a bug, but it turns out it’s just handled differently than the previous version. In the last version, you could add a new post, upload your images, insert your images as a gallery into the post and preview. With version 2.8, you have to create and save your post (at least as a draft) before it will retain images that are uploaded to be used in a gallery.

I don’t know if this change was intentional or not as I can’t see any real benefit having to save your post before you include your gallery, but for the time being at least the feature is still there.

It is an annoyance, but if you save the post as a draft before uploaded your images it will give you back the option to insert a gallery.
