I’m not going to make any apologizes for it. After watching the debate last night and reading the transcript on my lunch break the day after… I’m in love with Sarah Palin. Off the top of my head, here are two reasons why I’m going to vote for her and McCain:
1. She Says Things I Want To Hear
Sarah Palin in her debate with Joe Biden said something that I have yet to hear in any political discussion in my life time and it blew me away. What she said was: “…maybe we’ll have to learn to do without…”
I have for years been convinced that the biggest problem that America (if not the world) will face in the next generation (Logan’s generation) will be the individual’s false sense of entitlements. I won’t go into too much detail here, but in a nutshell Americans have somehow convinced themselves that the big bad world owes us something, when the exact opposite is true. The perfect example to draw on is what happened with Fanny and Freddie. Sometime back during the Clinton administration some Democrats and Republicans (knuckleheads) got together in a think tank and decided that every American should have a house (they’re entitled to owning a house) regardless of whether they could pay the mortgage or not. Long story short look how well that turned out.
To “learn to do without” is exactly what this nation (both it’s government and it’s citizens) needs, because it would complete remove any false sense of entitlements.
2. She Is Not A Washington Insider.
Yes, it is true that Sarah Palin doesn’t have as much Washington DC political experience as anyone else on the ticket… but this is a good thing. The yahoos in Washington (of all parties) are the ones causing all most of our problems. We need people that haven’t been brought up playing politics in Washington to make any real changes. This VP nod to Palin will put her in the perfect position to bring new perspectives to the table.
To get off on a tangent, her biggest weakness would certainly be an exceptional lack foreign policy experience, and people have made the argument that America’s image in the world could be compromised. I’m going to have to call people out on this one by sharing a little secret… the rest of the world does not like America anyway… and the world as a whole will not ever like her.
There is always going to be some nation, country, territory, whatever that hates us. The phrase, “You can’t please all the people all the time” applies to nations to. Is America perfect? Are we right all the time? Absolutely not, but it is an insane notion to believe that if the rest of the world truly knew how much we want all the world to join hands, and join us in a chorus, and feel all the warm fuzzies , they’d lay down their weapons and stop trying to kill us. And if you honestly believe that, you don’t understand cultural boundaries and/or history at all. (Hint: It’s not all our fault. World peace is a two way street, America is not going to usher it in on it’s own.)
Getting back to Palin, I say give her a shot at foreign affairs. We had plenty of so called “experienced” politicians give America a black eye throughout the years. Again, a new perspective just might be exactly what is needed.
Albert Einstein once defined insanity as “trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” The phrase “breath of fresh air” comes to mind.
